Nodal Centre – Indian Institute of Remote Sensing- Indian Space Research Organisation (IIRS–ISRO) Outreach Program on GIS & Remote Sensing

The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), under Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is a premier institute for training in Remote Sensing, GIS, and GPS applications.

Shri Mathuradas Mohota College of Science, Nagpur is a recognized Nodal Centre for the Outreach Program of the under the since 2023. The program aims to promote education, training, and capacity building in the fields of Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), and Geospatial Technologies among students, researchers, and faculty members.

Through the IIRS Outreach Program, students and faculty of the institution participate in live and interactive online courses, workshops, and training programs conducted by experts from ISRO and IIRS. These programs provide exposure to emerging geospatial technologies and their applications in Earth and environmental sciences.

Dr. Sanjeevani Jawadand, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Geology, serves as the SMMCS-IIRS nodal officer for the IIRS–ISRO Outreach Program at the college and coordinates all outreach activities, registrations, and academic interactions related to the program. Objectives of the Nodal Centre

  • To promote awareness and knowledge of Remote Sensing and GIS technologies.
  • To facilitate participation in IIRS–ISRO online outreach courses and training programs.
  • To enhance geospatial and analytical skills among students and faculty.
  • To encourage research and academic activities in the field of geospatial science and Earth observation.
